FUNDRAISERS braved the cooler weather on Saturday to hurl their wellies for a good cause.

The Swindon Guide Dogs for the Blind group benefited after around 25 people turned out to Roves Farm to take part in a welly-wanging competition, helping to raise £135 for the Swindon branch of the charity.

Winners all received a prize and Alan Fletcher, chairman of Swindon Guide Dogs, said the event was a success despite the weather.

“It was a lot of fun and everyone enjoyed themselves,” he said. “We had hoped more would get involved but I think a lot of people were put off by the cold.

“There were a lot of people who visited Roves Farm and were inside but they didn’t want to come out because it was cold, and I can’t blame them for that really.

“It was put to us to hold this event by Roves Farm some years ago now, and we decided to start doing it just because it is something a bit different.

“We always like to do something a bit different with our fundraisers to keep things interesting.”

The next fundraising event for the charity will take place on Monday, May 11, at The Village Inn in Liddington. There will be a quiz from 7.30pm, with proceeds going to Swindon Guide Dogs.
