MARLBOROUGH & District Junior (MADJA) competitors produced standout performances at the first Wessex League event at Basingstoke.

Woodborough primary school pupil Edie Noble showed her promise by winning the U11 girl Quad Kids event with an impressive 265 points.

Other nwins were chalked up by: Jay Rodon, who scored a best of 37.18 to win the U15 boys javelin, Charlie Curry, who clinched the U15 boys 100m in PB 12.1secs, U13 Georgie Noble, first in the 70mH with PB of 13.3 seconds; U13 Thomas Holmes, who won the javelin with a best of 27.87m; Jacob Smith who set a best of 4.43.4 to win the U17 1500m and U15 Bethany Palfrey, who took first in the javelin with best of 17.63m.

Meanwhile, Chippenham-based 14-year-old Ethan Pierce finished a fine third in the 1500m E race in 4:45.13 to carve over seven seconds off his lifetime best at the British Milers’ Club PB Classic, at Millfield School.

The mixed 3000m, which was the final event on a night marred by incessant rain, proved highly successful for Cameron Perkins and Gemma Shepherd.

Running the distance for the first time 16-year-old Hardenhuish School student Perkins finished third in 9:25.66, which puts him second in the South West rankings for U17 men while 17-year-old Shepherd broke 10 minutes for the first time.

The Sheldon School student paced her effort superbly to finish in 9:56.98 to lop almost eight seconds off her 2014 best and leap straight to the top of the South West Rankings for U20 women.

In the 3000m 15-year-old Malmesbury School student Zoe Wassell, who had such an excellent cross country season, finished eighth in 10:15.50.
