AN eight-year-old boy was struck by a car outside his primary school in North Swindon this morning.

Wiltshire Police swiftly responded to the road traffic collision outside Haydon Wick Primary School and closed The Brow as a result.

The boy was not seriously injured in the incident and his school has reiterated its message to parents on safe parking in the vicinity at drop-off and pick-up times.

Aine Gale, the school principal, said: “We have a school safety zone in place and we strongly encourage parents and carers to park safely and use our designated parking areas in our five-minute walk to school zone.

“From the police report, the driver of the car was driving responsibly, so luckily this time the child wasn’t badly injured, but in shock.

“We will continue to remind parents to park safely and are working with our local PCSO to further embed our road safety education programme.”

A spokeswoman for Wiltshire Police said: “Wiltshire Police received a call at 8.37am this morning, following a report of a road traffic collision involving a car and an eight-year-old boy outside Haydon Wick Primary School, The Brow.

“The road was blocked as a result, and was closed at both ends, while the incident was dealt with.

“The child is believed to have suffered a minor leg injury.”
