DOG lovers will be able to show off their pooches’ greatest assets once again as the dog show returns to Lydiard Park this summer.

Last year’s event was such a success, the park has again teamed up with Eastcott Vets to host the show, which will take place in the grounds on July 5.

With twice the capacity made available, up to 30 furry friends can enter in all 13 classes in the competition to help raise money for charity.

Proceeds from this year’s show are to go to Swindon Guide Dogs and Mission Rabies, which aims to vaccinate dogs against rabies to stop the spread of the disease to people and save the lives of both humans and dogs.

A spokesman from Eastcott Vets said: “Last year’s show was a huge success. We were very well-supported by local businesses that donated prizes to the raffle and sponsored classes.

“So many dogs joined us that classes filled up quickly.

“Many owners out for their morning walk in the park joined us and really enjoyed themselves.

“It is not a Crufts-style show, the emphasis is fun and fundraising. Dogs can be of any age, size and variety, all are welcome.

“This year we have larger classes so that more people can join in and enter multiple classes if they wish.

“This year’s show supports Swindon Guide Dogs and Mission Rabies, a little-known charity working towards eradicating rabies by the mass vaccination of dogs in the third world.”

From 11am to 4pm, people can bring along their pets to join in the show and register into as many categories as they choose, including Best Small Dog (Any Variety), Best Medium Dog (Any Variety), Best Large Dog (Any Variety), and Best in Show.

The competition is also open to dogs of all ages, with rosettes available for Best Puppy (3 to 6 months), Best Puppy (6 to 12 months), and Best Veteran (over 7 years).

As well as Prettiest Bitch (Any Variety) and Most Handsome Dog (Any Variety), there will also be prizes for the Dog with the Waggiest Tail, Dog with the Most Appealing Eyes, the Best Child Handler and the Dog Most Like Owner.

Anyone can enter, and entry to the show is free.

As well as the show, there will be a number of trade stalls, and a charity raffle.
