TASTY treats and T-shirts are among the goods on offer during the Tenner Festival, which gets underway in Old Town next week.

The event, which starts on June 7, sees independent boutiques, delis and cafes offer a host of treats, hand-made gifts and treatments for just £10.

Inspired by the established tenner fests in Jersey and Guernsey, the good buy extravaganza will welcome bargain-hunters to Old Town to pick up the deals until June 13.

“I would love to take full credit for the concept but I actually borrowed and changed it slightly from Jersey and Guernsey who have run a food-based tenner festival for several years,” said Jan Wojtowicz, Old Town Business Association vice-chairman.

“It’s a huge success and we thought why not give it a go in Old Town as we have so much on offer. It is the first time we have run it and I think it is unique to the area.

“What we have done is opened it up to more than just food as we have some many skilled and talented businesses in Old Town. It seemed a shame to just restrict it to food.”

Deals on offer will include a supersized wrap and a drink at Eggelicious, a wash and styling at Changes hair salon, an all-day champagne breakfast at The Pig on the Hill and three tubs of ice cream or four two-scoop cones at Rays Ice Cream.

Jan added: “The Pantry will offer a best of British menu – beef cobbler, Irish stew, lamb hotpot, Cornish pasty with Bubble’ n’ Squeak – and all served up with a pot of tea.

“GlamoRose is offering nine vanilla flake cupcakes and The Little Rose Cottage will have a whole window of £10 offers. The Marriot Hotel is going to offer chicken madras curry, rice, naan bread, poppadoms, Wiltshire sausage and mash, caramelised red onion gravy, 8oz gammon steak, eggs and chips. And there is a lot more to follow.”

The Core has also joined the festival all week with a sandwich, regular juice, piece of cake and ginger shot for the promised tenner, while Miller and Holland Hairdressers will offer a £10 blow dry.

The Harmony Bridal shop has launched a £10 discount on bridal accessories, as has Wood Street Wellbeing on massages and therapies.

Meanwhile, The Café is treating customers to traditional breakfasts complete with two scrummy slices of cake, while Moshan Island Grill is offering jerk chicken, rice and pea salad, coleslaw and a glass of rum punch for £10.
