SWASTIKAS were daubed across a car and a bus stop in Wroughton in the early hours of yesterday Wednesday morning.

The Nazi emblems were painted around the areas of Wharf Road and Edgar Row Close in green paint at some time between 1am and 8am.

The police are treating it as criminal damage.

Extra patrols are being put on by officers with the neighbourhood policing team in the vicinity, and enquiries are going on.

Police have confirmed they are treating the incident as racially motivated due to the nature of the symbols.

While the investigation is only in its early stages, police do not believe any single person or family has been targeted.

A spokeswoman for Wiltshire Police said: “Police are appealing for information in relation to an incident of criminal damage in Wroughton.

“Between 1am and 8am on May 27, offenders have painted swastikas in green paint on the windscreen of a car parked in Edgar Row Close.

“Swastikas have also been painted on the bus stop in Wharf Road.”

The swastikas have since been painted over, within hours of the offence taking place.

West Sector Sergeant Dave Flynn said the team is seeking any information from people who may have been in the area through Wednesday morning to contact them.

“Enquiries are currently at a very early stage, but the criminal damage is being classified as racially motivated, although it does not appear that any individual has been targeted,” he said.

“Graffiti can be costly to remove and can be upsetting for any victims involved.

“The local neighbourhood policing team are increasing patrols in the area and we would like to hear from anybody who saw or heard any suspicious activity in the Wharf Road or Edgar Row Close area to contact us.”

Anyone with information should call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously.
