THE Old Town Festival is under starters orders and organisers are expecting people to race to one of the first events.

On Saturday, June 6, the Commonweal Marquee, at The Lawn, in Old Town, will host a race night as part of the festival, which runs from June 6 to 14.

Josie Williams, festival chairman, said the race night was expected to be a highlight of the opening weekend.

“I’m looking forward to the Race Night in the Commonweal Marquee,” she said. “There’s a prize for the best Ascot hat. The excitement is building, it’s almost tangible.”

The race night has been organised by Heather Matthews, the festival vice-chairman, with event coordinator, Jenny Stevenson. “They are terrific girls and give freely of their time as do all of the committee,” Josie said.

“I feel blessed to have the opportunity to work with a great team of people.

“Come along and join in an evening of fun at the races, at a fraction of the cost.”

Tickets to the races cost £10 and include a free glass of Pimms and a hog roast.

Bookings for a table of six or more qualify for an extra surprise.

“Remember, our chosen charity this year is the Brighter Futures radiotherapy appeal at GWH,” Josie added. A raffle and licensed bar will also be running on the night.

The race night takes place on the second night of the festival, following opening event, An Evening of Good Taste, from 7.30pm until 10.30pm at the Christ Church Community Centre, in Cricklade Street.

Tickets can be bought online at www.swindontickets.co.uk and there will be a limited number of tickets available on the door.
