THIEVES have been targeting tractors and ride-on lawn mowers in rural areas of North Swindon over the past week.

Police said thieves had even been cutting down hedges to reach the machines.

Over recent days, a mower was stolen and a group was disturbed attempting to steal a Kabota tractor, making off in a van pulling a trailer, said police.

PCSO Juliet Evans, of North Swindon neighbourhood policing team, said she wants to hear from anyone who may have information regarding the incidents or is offered vehicles for sale.

“This week there has been a theft of a ride-on lawn mower and an attempt theft of a Kabota tractor,” she said.

“All have been in rural locations and the offenders have gone to the trouble to cut down hedges to gain access.

“In the attempt theft of the Kabota tractor the offenders were disturbed and made off in a van towing a trailer.”

Residents are asked to contact police on 101 if they see anything suspicious or 999 for a crime in progress. Information can also be left anonymously on via the Crimestoppers hotline, on 0800 555 111.
