GREAT Western Hospitals Foundation Trust is a priority for an inspection by health watchdog the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following the publication of the latest monitoring report.

The hospital has been placed in priority band three for inspection in the CQC Intelligent Monitoring report, where band one in the highest priority and band six the lowest.

A CQC Intelligent Monitoring report places all acute healthcare trusts into one of six priority bands for inspection and assesses them against a range of indicators that reflect information on the quality of care including patient experience, staff experience and performance.

The GWH, which is due to undergo an inspection this September, was assessed against 96 indicators and received a risk score of 10 out of a possible 192, placing it in band three - the middle priority for inspection.

The CQC introduced its new rating system in July 2014, which places trusts into one of six risk bands relating to the five key questions the regulator asks – ‘are services safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led?’
