POLICE closed down two brothels in Swindon today after receiving information from residents.

Acting on complaints from local residents, officers from the Human Exploitation team based at Melksham and officers from Swindon Neighbourhood Tasking Team attended addresses in Brunel Crescent and disrupted the two brothels, which were being run from flats within the complex.

Two Romanian women were located in one flat and three Polish women were located in a second flat.

All of the five women admitted to being sex workers and after declining the offer of assistance regarding potential exploitation, they were asked to leave and the brothels were closed down.

DI Matt Davey said: "Today's outcome was a result of intelligence we have received from local residents.

"We will continue to liaise with the property management companies that run these addresses, in an attempt to prevent these premises from being used like this in the future.

"This shows that we will take action against this kind of behaviour within residential areas, and will continue to check the welfare of the women being employed in this industry."

If you suspect any suspicious activity in your area, call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously if preferred.
