INSPIRATIONAL transplant survivor Stacie Pridden is finally back home in Swindon after more than three weeks in hospital.

The brave 24-year-old from Pinehurst was given the all-clear to return home after receiving a life-saving heart and double lung transplant last month.

She took to Facebook to convey her excitement and say she was “officially on her way home” and looking forward to the journey ahead.

“So I did it,” she said. “I made it home. I actually got through the hospital bit and made it home. I know this is where the hard work really begins and I’m probably in for a rough year but I cannot wait for what the future has to hold for me.”

Stacie has continued to defy expectations with her remarkable progress after undergoing the major procedure which she has documented on social media and in her Life is Worth the Fight blog.

It’s been a momentous week for Stacie, who also appeared on national television to update ITV’s Good Morning Britain on her remarkable progress.

The show has followed Stacie’s story and helped her publicise the need to sign up to the organ donor register.

Speaking to presenter Ben Shepherd from heart-lung specialist centre Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire, Stacie thanked the viewers who have supported her.

Ben later tweeted: “Just the most brilliant news — didn’t she look amazing.

“We want you in the studio next time. Stay well Stacie, was highlight of our morning.”

Stacie suffered from pulmonary hypertension – a condition where the right side of the heart is damaged making it less efficient at pumping blood around the body — and makes it very difficult to breathe.

After three years — and three false alarms — on the organ donor waiting list Stacie finally got the call she had been waiting for and underwent the life-changing double transplant.

Stacie paid tribute to the team at Papworth hospital.

She said: “My transplant experience has really been amazing, truly one of a kind and that’s down to the people at Papworth Hospital for being amazing and to all of you guys for being so supportive the entire way whether you’ve only known me a month, a year or you’ve known me forever I will always be forever and eternally grateful for all you have done.

“Thank you to absolutely everyone for any message of encouragement, thought, prayer, crossed finger or toe, card, present, visit, just anything really.

"You made my time in hospital just so much fun and like a home away from home. I felt it all.”

The operation will enable Stacie to look forward to the year ahead, including attending twin sister Megan’s wedding, being an auntie to sister Candice’s baby daughter Skyler and moving forward with her plans to become a teacher.
