INVENTORS of the future had a chance to showcase their work to parents at an exhibition at Isambard Community School on Monday.

Every year Isambard’s Design and Technology Show gives students in Key Stages Three and Four to exhibit their work during the past year.

It showcases a variety of different disciplines, including textiles, graphics, resistant materials and food technology.

From 7pm to 8.30pm, parents had a chance to visit the exhibition and explore their children’s creations, while sampling the nibbles and refreshments on offer.

There was also a raffle and the school also had its 3D printer in operation during the evening, which produced a surprise item for one of the raffle prizes. Other prizes were donated by local businesses.

The evening was rounded off with a fashion show arranged by the students Marie Stacey, the lead teacher for design and technology, said the display featured a raft of work from students, made up of pieces from across the craft spectrum.

“We are so very proud of the work students produce and we have themed the show to complement all the different specialities within our vibrant department,” she said.

“Our resistant materials display is set up to look like a living room, textiles is fashioned around a laundry room and there is a fashion show where textile garments and products are showcased and modelled by students.

“Our graphic products exhibition shows an explosion of creativity where students’ design pages have been turned into wallpaper.”

And she said visitors did not go hungry, as food technology students created a range of delights for the event.

“Food technology students demonstrated a variety of different quick and healthy snacks, which all the visitors were able to sample,” Marie said.

Jess and Ebony were two of the students taking part in the exhibition.

Speaking beforehand Jess said: “I have always wanted to be a model so it’s really a big thing for me.”

Ebony said: “I’m so happy and excited. I like modelling and I’ve helped my sister’s friend at college by modelling her designs for her.”

Kara, who had arrived to support her friends in the show, was very impressed with the preparations.

“It looks really good,” she said. “I love the way it’s been set out.”

Another student, Shannon said: “It looks really creative. I’m looking forward to seeing my friends on the catwalk and cheering them on.”
