OLD Town residents will been transported to the Caribbean thanks to a restaurant’s new mural.

The Moshan Island Grill, in Newport Street, has traded grey skies for sun-drenched beaches with its revamped sunset-style exterior.

Manager Kelly Moulding said travels with her family played a crucial part in creating the mural.

“It’s absolutely fantastic, when the sun light comes through it creates an almost 3D effect and you almost feel that you could be in the Caribbean,” she said.

“We went to Jamaica a few years ago and that’s definitely played a part in the inspiration behind it.”

Mural magician Tim Watts, from No Frills Graffiti, was responsible for bringing manager Kelly’s vision to life and completed the job in just two days.

The new exterior matches the new decor inside the restaurant, completing a total revamp of Moshan Island Grill, which celebrates its fourth birthday this week.

Kelly said: “It was absolutely horrible before and it looked faded and tired. We wanted the inside to match the outside and reflect what the restaurant and we’re all about.

“We wanted the restaurant to stand out in Old Town as there aren’t really any buildings that have bright colours.

“We’re so happy with it.

“We wanted to bring the sunshine to Swindon and we have. People love it. Our Facebook page has got so many more likes and we have people coming in off the street and telling us they love it.”
