A 13-YEAR-old boy has admitted his role in an assault on a teenager in West Swindon which was filmed and went viral after being uploaded to Facebook.

The video, which was posted on the social media site by one of the teenage attackers and was viewed more than 55,000 times having been shared from the ‘Man Up Behaviour’ page, shows the victim being surrounded by youths who demand he kiss the shoe of the 13-year-old.

One of the attackers punches the boy to the face before kicking him and spitting at him while he is on the ground.

Kate Prince, prosecuting, told the an earlier hearing how the 17-year-old victim had been walking home from ice skating at the Link Centre with a friend at 9pm on Tuesday, June 2, when he saw the 13-year-old, who he recognised from school.

“He was swinging an empty bottle he had tied a string around, and used that bottle to strike the victim on the legs,” she said.

“The younger boy then turned away shouting in the direction of the Link Centre where there were a large number of people, saying that [the victim] was getting mouthy.”

The victim then continued to walk away when he heard the voice of the defendant shouting ‘get back here’, at which point he started running away, the court heard.

He ran out of breath and he was surrounded by seven youths when the video recording began.

In the video, a 14-year-old is heard saying ‘why are you getting mouthy with my brother, kiss his shoe,’ before asking ‘do you want a broken jaw?’ “The victim is heard to say ‘what have I done?’” said Ms Prince.

“The 14-year-old swings a punch with his right hand and kicks him to the left hand side before spitting on him. As a result the victim is scared to leave the house and worries about answering the phone. He feels belittled and small about being forced to kiss the boy’s shoe.”

On Tuesday at Swindon Youth Court, the 13-year-old was given a nine-month referral order with the Swindon youth offending team, as well as being ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15 and court costs of £85.

The 14-year-old boy previously admitted one count of assault and a public order offence on June 9, when he was placed on conditional bail and a curfew.

Having breached his bail and attempted to cut off a bike lock the weekend after he appeared in court, he is now due to be sentenced on June 30 for all matters.
