COWBOYS came to the supermarket during a fancy dress day which saw staff raise more than £600 for charity.

Staff at Morrisons, in Dorcan Way, launched their 2015 fundraising challenge in style by raising £609 during a Wild West-themed fancy dress day and tombola during last Friday and Saturday June 26 and 27.

It was the first event to raise funds for the supermarket chain’s chosen charity, Sue Ryder.

More are planned in the coming months, including a tea party on October 19.

In November, the store’s general manager Steve Smith will also be spending a day volunteering with good causes in the local community.

Abbie Paginton, community champion at the Dorcan Way store, said: “We’re very excited about all the events we are getting involved in this year.

“The fancy dress day was a lot of fun and we’re delighted to have raised such a fantastic amount for our charity partner Sue Ryder.

“As always, our customers were extremely generous; and on behalf of everyone at the store, I’d like to thank them for their support.

“We hope they will enjoy the other activities we have lined up for the rest of the year.”

More than 80 stores across England, Scotland and Wales are taking part in the fundraising challenge in a bid to raise at least £250,000 for the health and social care charity Sue Ryder, which has been Morrisons’ national charity partner since February 2014.

Money raised through the Morrisons Raise a Smile partnership with Sue Ryder is funding new community healthcare services, family support teams and Sue Ryder’s online community and support services at www.sueryder.org/support
