SWINDON Town has released a shortlist of four organisations vying to become its Charity of the Year for the coming season, and they need your vote.

Brighter Futures, Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Movement (CALM), Swindon Therapy Centre for Multiple Sclerosis and Headway Swindon & District are on the shortlist.

Past support from the club for previous Charity of the Year winners included collections at home games from fans, player and management appearances at charity occasions, and donations of signed shirts for raffles.

To cast your vote, you must download the club’s new social media app Fanzai or visit fanzai.com/Swindon before Friday (JUL 10) when the deadline passes.

Jennifer Green, head of Fundraising for Brighter Futures, said: “It’s fantastic news Brighter Futures has been nominated to be Swindon Town’s Charity of the Year.

“I really hope the team’s fantastic fan base selects us to be the club’s chosen charity.

“There is a real buzz around Swindon since our radiotherapy appeal to bring cancer treatment to the town was launched and I’m so grateful for the wonderful support we have already received.

“Come on, you reds. I’m now asking fans to get behind us again by going to Swindon Town’s website and voting for us.”

Richard Crowley, CALM chairman, said: “CALM is a wholly voluntary charity. There are no wages paid, so every penny donated to the charity goes straight to providing support and services for families that have a child with cancer in the Swindon area.

“CALM is the only one of the charities that have made the final stages of the selection process that places the support of children with a life threatening illness at the centre of everything we do.

“One of the main areas of support CALM provides, is sending families away on convalescent holidays, giving the whole family the chance to take a break from the rigours of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, while creating happy family members to treasure for years to come.”

The Multiple Sclerosis charity aims to support people holistically in addition to help treat their symptoms.

This extends to those touched by MS and other neurological conditions, it also helps children with learning difficulties and neurological conditions, and their families, through use of an oxygen chamber.

It has recently launched its Moving on Up Appeal to buy the freehold of the building enabling it to expand its services to upstairs, which is currently empty, in order to provide a new state of the art gym facility, dedicated exercise studio and further therapy rooms.

Headway is a local charity which helps adults who have survived a brain injury caused by a sudden event such as a traffic accident or stroke.

Due to increasing demand of its service, the main objective for Headway is, within the next year, to move to bigger premises in Swindon and furnish it with new equipment It would install a life skills kitchen to enable clients to develop cooking skills to use at home.
