FAMILIES were fighting fit as they participated in a free army style training session in Lydiard Park last weekend.

The session was led by instructors from outdoor fitness provider British Military Fitness, in partnership with NHS Change4Life and ukactive.

BMF specialises in intensive outdoor fitness classes in a variety of conditions and provide training for 16 to 79 year olds from its base at Lydiard Park.

Families endured hot weather to enjoy the high-octane activities on Saturday, including squats, pressups, burpees, lunges and planks, under the watchful gaze of specialist instructors.

All of BMF’s instructors are ex-service personnel who teach a civilian-friendly version of physical exercise used in the Army, Navy and RAF.

The tried-and-tested military techniques require very little equipment and rely upon body weight to build stamina, strength, agility and speed.

Harry Sowerby, managing director of British Military Fitness, said: “We understand that finding activities to keep children entertained over the holidays can be difficult, so we wanted to offer something fun and free that would help families spend quality time together in the summer break.”
