A PLAY which questions the existence and source of personal strength is set to return to the stage tomorrow in aid of Ruby’s Fat Cow Fund (RFCF).

David Lane’s Butterfly, in association with Gatecrash Theatre, will grace the boards at New College’s Phoenix Theatre in aid of the fund, which was set up in memory of Ruby Shakespeare, who died at the age of 10 in 2011 Ruby had been diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour 16 months earlier and had undergone several operations as well as chemo and radiotherapy before she died.

The trust parents Annette and Tim established in her memory raises money for four separate charities: Ronald McDonald House, CLIC Sargent, The Brain Tumour Charity and local charity CALM.

Tom Coward, who has helped to organise tomorrow’s performance as one of several fundraisers during the next year, said: “I am doing this to raise money for a great local cause but also I want to spread this amazing charity everywhere and make not just Swindon but also Wiltshire know about them and what they do.

“I have ran 10ks and half marathons for nationally known charities but wanted to do something closer to home and push myself further in what I can raise and do.

“I had heard of RFCF after Butterfly was first performed, and I wanted to take part but couldn’t due to work commitments and so the charity was always in the back of my head.

“Every year I try and raise money for various charities and when the opportunity came up to support something more local I wanted to give it a go.”

Tim said the fund was set up to remember Ruby, and also to help other children and their families.

He said: “It was something to remember her by and it was also so that something good could come out of her life and there was something which could help support other families.”

RFCF has helped to raise more than £50,000 since it was established.

It runs a number of different fundraising events each year which have raised varying amounts from £30 to £3,000. The money raised is divided equally between the four charities.

Tom has organised the production with fellow Gatecrash members Daniel Wyatt and Carli Green. Tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.

Tickets are available on the door or in advance online from www.ticketsource.co.uk/rubysfatcowfund.
