COMMUNITY-FOCUSED volunteers visited Walcot on Tuesday armed with litter picks and rubbish bags to clean up the streets.

Some 10 volunteers met at housing association Bromford’s head office, in Calvert Road, before hitting streets in the area for the litter pick, including Bromford residents beauty queen Miss Wiltshire 2015 Nicole Cox and Cllr Stan Pajak (Lib, Eastcott).

The Taj Mahal in West Swindon also supported the group by serving up a delicious post-litter-pick meal.

Daniel Webb, who helped to organise the litter pick, said: “We’ve walked for miles across the Walcot and Park North ward and it’s been great.

“We’ve picked up 10 full bin bags – a successful two-hour walk.

“One man stopped and looked in shock, he commented ‘wow, I’ve never seen anyone litter pick before, keep up the good work’ – and from that, he’s joining us on our next community litter pick.

“I truly believe that people need to look after the community that they live in.

“Yes, we have a council but resources and funding is stretched.

“If everyone spent time each week helping to keep their own street clean, we’d have a beautiful town.”
