DAVE Snell, who had already booked his place at Leamington to defend his senior (O55s) singles title, has also qualified in the senior pairs with Mel Biggs (Westlecot), with whom he won the national senior pairs crown in 2013.

The duo booked their place in the last 32 at Royal Leamington Spa with a 23-10 victory over Holt’s Rodney Summers and Kevin Oliver on Monday at Wootton Bassett.

Wootton Bassett will be well represented in the men’s section of the month-long national championships that start this weekend at Victoria Park.

They had already qualified for Leamington in five men’s events and one mixed - singles (Dave Godwin), junior U25 singles (Kyle Anderson), senior singles (Snell), triples (skip Gary Morphet) and fours (skips Stephen Snell and Gary Morphet), as well as family pairs (Anderson).

Westlecot players have reached the final stages in four men’s events and one mixed.

Biggs will feature in men’s national singles and senior (O55s) pairs, Craig Hatherall in the junior (U25) singles and his father Graham in the two-wood singles along with Mike Jackson, while John Anderson is into the family pairs quarter-finals with son Kyle.

The men’s championships do not start in earnest until Friday, August 14, with the last 32 in the senior pairs featuring Biggs and Snell and the quarter-finals in the Club Two Fours.

  • n THE FOUR Areas in the Wiltshire Men’s Four Rink League competition are nearing completion, with the top two clubs in each moving forward for the end of season play-offs for the 2015 men’s top county team title.

Area A, in the north of the county, was dominated by Highworth, with Swindon West End finishing as runners-up.

Provisional quarter-final draw: Highworth v Spencer Moulton or Avon or Spencer Melksham; Swindon West End v Holt; Swindon Westlecot v Salisbury; Wootton Bassett or Chippenham Town v Amesbury.
