OGBOURNE Downs Golf Club welcomed an athlete of a different nature when Kevan Williams golfed, cycled and ran between holes for the Alzheimers Society.

The keen golfer raised more than £1,200 by taking part in the event on July 25, Club Captain’s Day at the course.

Kevan, from Blunsdon, decided that instead of completing a swim, cycle and run he would complete a game of golf, cycle and then run every hole on the course for the charity, inspired by his own father’s experience of the disease.

“When the club captain, Steve Howcroft, said that his chosen charity would be the Alzheimers Society this struck a chord with me,” he said.

“Eighteen months ago my father was diagnosed with the disease so I know first-hand the struggle that sufferers and their families go through on a day to day basis.

“I’ve experienced some highs in my sporting career but nothing like the one I got when we reached the flag on the eighteenth green, it was amazing.

“With all the donations counted, I have raised £1,200 for the Alzheimers Society, so the pain has been worth it and I hope that the money raised will be used locally to support sufferers and their families.”
