RACING man David Price has been keeping the punters at his Bath restaurant happy for 34 years and it is a safe bet he will continue to do so.
We visited his establishment which occupies the ground floor of five Georgian town houses in an elegant cul de sac in the city centre for a special celebration.
At the rather grand old age of 60 I graduated from Bath Spa University and wanted somewhere a bit special to mark the occasion.
On a warm evening it was lovely to be able to sit back and relax with my family in the outside area with a glass of chilled white wine in my hand.
We later moved into the spacious restaurant area to order our food from a menu which had an excellent range of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes.
We visited during a week of seafood specials with the catch delivered each day from Devon and we made the most of this.
I was delighted to see my favourite fish dish of skate was on the menu and also opted for a fishy starter of crab, My husband and brother both wanted oysters to start but when they were told there were only six left they opted to share these and combine it with the crab dish.
The only person not to go the seafood route was my son who had terrine for his starter and chose lamb for his main course. He was full of compliments for the way the lamb was cooked and the sauce.
For pudding I had a creme brulee which was creamy and rich while others finished with the cheese option.
Mr Price's wife Claude is French and the Gallic touch is clear with the classical touches on the menu.
The quality and cooking of the food was excellent and the service very friendly without being intrusive.
The restaurant offers a range of menus from bar snacks to a la carte.
Starters on the a la carte menu start at £5.50 for soup and go up to £10.50 for king prawns. Main courses go from £12.95 for pasta to £26.95 for fillet steak. Puddings are all £6.50 while the cheeseboard is £9.
Our meal was a brilliant end to a fantastic day and one I shall remember.
