WOMEN will be getting down and dirty in Lydiard Park next month in aid of Cancer Research UK as people take part in Swindon’s first Pretty Muddy event.

The five-kilometre obstacle course will come hot on the heels of this summer’s Race for Life events in the park, with organisers hoping 4,500 women sign up to help raise another £200,000 for the cause.

Michelle Leighton, Cancer Research UK’s Swindon event manager, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the commitment women in the town have shown to the cause and the way they have wholeheartedly embraced Pretty Muddy.

“We know they aren’t afraid to get their hands – and the rest of their bodies – dirty in the fight against cancer, so we’re delighted to be bringing Pretty Muddy to Lydiard Park.

“Every day, 85 people are diagnosed with cancer in the SouthWest.

That’s why we need the brave ladies of Swindon to show their fighting spirit and sign up as soon as possible.

“We are urging women to grab their places now, whether they’re a Pretty Muddy novice or have already taken part and want the chance for mud, sweat and tears all over again.”

Pretty Muddy will take place on September 5, and Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is urging the girls to sign up to take part in the event.

More than 3,000 women took part in Race for Life in Swindon in June and raised £200,000.

Michelle added: “The atmosphere on the day is amazing. There is an incredible power and strength that comes from thousands of women joining together to confront cancer.

“Women can complete the Pretty Muddy course at their own pace.

“It’s not about who crosses the finish line first. It’s about women of all ages tackling obstacles together and helping Cancer Research UK’s scientists in their ultimate challenge – bringing forward the day when all cancers are cured.”

Money raised through Race for Life allows Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists to advance research which is helping to save the lives of men, women and children across the South-West.
