RESIDENTS in Cheney Manor and Ferndale can now sign up to an information sharing service which has revolutionised policing elsewhere in Swindon.

The Wiltshire and Swindon Community Messaging was a scheme rolled out to Wiltshire Police and Neighbourhood Watch by Angus Macpherson.

The Wiltshire & Swindon Police and Crime Commissioner saw the scheme as vital for future of policing, making it easier than ever for the public to provide crucial information, via email, text and phone.

PCSO Beth Norman was at Even Swindon Community Centre to launch the scheme on her patch yesterday.

“If there’s been a spate of burglaries or crimes in an isolated spot, this messaging scheme is perfect for officers to put the word out and give advice to residents,” she said.

“I use it regularly. If there are any crimes I will update that site, as will other officers, but it’s a two-way thing. We want to hear from people too.

“It’s the ideal preventative measure. It raises awareness of problems. It’s not going to stop problems, but it can act as an excellent deterrent.”

When signing up for Wiltshire and Swindon Community Messaging, you can also choose to join like-minded people by becoming part of a Neighbourhood Watch scheme in your area or request to start a new one. For more information, visit wiltsmessaging.co.uk.
