CHILDREN can uncover the hidden magic of nature and art by learning how to make a film, or create an art garden this summer.

Swindon youngsters, aged from six to 11-years-old, can have fun in the gardens of the Richard Jefferies Museum, in Marlborough Road, Swindon.

Through creative play they can become inspired by the lives and works of famous artists.

The Mulberry Arts Club runs every Sunday throughout August and children can also earn themselves a nationally recognised arts award.

Hilda Sheehan, the museum’s education officer, said: “We want children to make a place for themselves here. The last art club made a giant amaryllis flower, which stood in the garden.’’ Mulberry Arts Magic Monday takes its ideas from Richard Jefferies’ children’s book Wood Magic. Children can build a den, listen to the story-teller, make music, do some painting, play games or simply climb trees and run all around the Victorian writer’s famous Mulberry bush in the orchard.

Richard Jefferies was a celebrated writer, journalist, novelist and essayist who had a passion for nature. He also wrote a number of children’s books.

Art club is funded by Arts Council and costs £5 per child. It runs from 10.30am on Sunday, Magic Mondays is £5 per family and runs from 1pm. Call 07768 917466. -Flicky Harrison
