A SUITCASE-SIZED KitKat gave 80 care home residents the sweetest break of all yesterday.

Chocolate connoisseurs at Haydon Wick’s Orchid Care Home received the supersized chocolate bar after winning an online competition, run by confectioners Hancocks.

Competition entrants were challenged to come up with inventive ways of sharing the 3kg delight, which was crafted by Nestle on behalf of Hancocks.

Orchid Care Home nurse and part-time confectioner Jackie Turner scooped the chocolate titan with a heartfelt message.

“I like to make sweet cakes in my spare time and when I saw this competition I couldn’t resist,” she said.

“I said if I won I would share it with all the lovely residents here..”

“I’m so happy that we got chosen and I was literally bouncing around when I got the call.

“And I’m happy to see the effect it’s had on everyone else. It’s a lot of fun, it’s made everyone laugh.

“People have really been looking forward to seeing it. we only told them yesterday because we wanted it to be a surprise for them.

“They were shocked when they saw it.”

Jackie, who planned to use a hammer to smash up the mammoth chocolate bar, predicted sweettoothed residents wouldn’t need a long break to demolish the KitKat.

“I think it will be gone in a day, because it looks so appetising that people can’t resist having some,” she said.

The giant chocolate wafer went down a storm with the Guernsey Lane care home’s 80 residents, who gathered for the chocolate presentation ceremony.

Among those waiting to get their hands on the enormous snack was Betty Lamb, 91, who said KitKats were her favourite.

”I think it’s a very good idea and I love KitKats,” she said.

And 102-year-old Ada Werrell said she couldn’t wait to try some.

“I’m looking forward to having it with a nice cup of tea,” she said.

And Jackie revealed there will be an extended tea party for the residents to enjoy the massive treat.

“I hope their dentures are strong enough,” she said.
