NEWBURY Racecourse will be rocked by disco and old-school pop with Bjorn Again and Madness set to headline Party in the Paddock this summer.

On Saturday, August 15, 1970s nostalgia will sweep the racecourse with an unmissable performance of Bjorn Again, the Abba spoof musical show.

The tongue-in-cheek Abba bonanza promises to transport Betfred Ladies Day racegoers to a glitzy era when peasant tops, spangly flares and towering platforms reigned supreme.

Bjorn Again was created by Rod Stephen in 1988 in Melbourne. Scripted and choreographed as a parody of Abba, the show rapidly achieved cult status.

With 4,900 performances in 71 countries over nearly three decades it has garnered legions of fans.

The revels will continue on Saturday, September 19 when ska sensation Madness take to the Party in the Paddock stage on the second day of the Dubai Duty Free International Meeting.

Best known for quirky pop anthems House of Fun, Baggy Trousers and My Girl, the group spent a remarkable 214 weeks in the UK singles charts in the 1980s and hold the record (jointly with UB40) for the longest time at the top of the charts in that decade.
