POLICE are appealing for information after a man in his mid-20s told a 16-year-old Swindon girl to get into his car.

The girl was walking home along an alleyway in Ferndale Road, near Surrey Road, at about 8.30pm yesterday when she became aware of a man sitting in a car.

The man, whose car was parked in the alleyway at the end of Surrey Road, told the teenager to get into his car but she refused and ran off.

Police say the man is described as Asian, aged in his mid 20s, with dark, short, spikey hair.

It is believed he was wearing a dark blue T-shirt and appeared to be on his own in the vehicle, which is described as a dark-coloured saloon-type vehicle, with the letters A, Z, and the number 0 within the registration plate.

The front number plate was broken and hanging off, and the front passenger head rest appeared to be ripped.

PC Simon Peet said: "The victim did the right thing by refusing to get in the man's car, running from the scene and immediately reporting the incident to police.

"I would like to hear from anybody who was in the area at the time who may have seen the man described."

Anyone with information should call PC Peet on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously if preferred.
