FINAL preparations are being made for the second North Swindon Community Fun Day, with organisers promising something for everyone.

Last year’s inaugural event saw more than 4,000 people turn out, with organisers hoping this time will be even bigger.

It takes place at Brook Park, in Redhouse, on September 5 and is put together by a team of local residents.

Like last year there will be a vintage tea tent and a barbecue but this year there will also be a beer tent and a live musical stage.

With the event coming together, fingers are crossed the sun will make a rare appearance.

Suzi Gatward, who is on the organising committee, said: “All year I kept telling everyone the weather was brilliant and it was so I’ve been doing the same this year and it will be, even if I have to do a sun dance.

“We’re hoping for it to be even bigger this year.

“We try to make sure there is something for everyone, which is why we ask all traders not just to bring along their wares to sell but also to bring along something fun to do or sell from their stalls.”

To help make the event a success, sponsorship has been sought from a number of local businesses, including Gatekeeper Estate Agents and Sovereign Housing, which along with funding from the Haydon Wick Parish Council has provided more than £1,500.

“There is nothing else in the area like this in north Swindon,” said Suzi.

“As a community we needed something to bring us together, because although we all live next to each other we never really come together as a community.

“The feedback after last year was brilliant too, with people posting on forums on Facebook that they really enjoyed it and were looking forward to next year.”

The only thing now needed is more volunteers to come forward to make sure everything runs smoothly on the day.

“We’re still desperately looking for volunteers from the age of 14 and over,” she said.

“Without the volunteers to man the gate we wouldn’t be able to run it, simply because we wouldn’t have enough people.”

The event will run from 1pm until 6pm. For more information or to find out how you can volunteer, visit nscommunitygroup.org.uk or visit facebook.com/nsFunDay
