Town’s successful start to the season continued last weekend as the two guys who are making the headlines worked together to seal the points at Roots Hall.

Nathan Byrne’s progression at Swindon Town has been a real success story for the current regime.

When he took to the field on his debut as a 2nd half substitute replacing Nathan Thompson in a 1-1 home draw with Oldham in March 2013, he was a defender who looked dangerous going forward, but looked vulnerable when having to defend.

He started the next campaign in the same position but by the last game of that season he was given the freedom to attack as a wingback to hurt the opposition with his pace and trickery with the ball.

And that progression has lead him to becoming one of the best attacking midfielders outside the top two divisions, something he owes a lot to the management team at Town, as he would not be as coveted now if he was left as a fullback.

Inevitably, like all success stories at Town, he will move on, whether it’s Huddersfield, Burnley or QPR who stump up what is hopefully close to £1million Ideally, Town would reject any approach for Byrne and tell the player he will be allowed to leave in January, first helping the club to get on track for a top-six finish and help his replacement Jordan Stewart get used to life in the Football League.

That way Byrne gets his wish of a bigger move in a few months and Town will receive a transfer fee instead of him leaving on a free next summer.

With the almighty wallet running the game, I doubt he will be a Town player by the first game in September.

One of the other main talking points from our impressive start to the campaign has been the encouraging form of Fabien Robert.

The former Lorient attacking midfielder has found his feet quickly in Town’s system and looks an exciting talent for the upcoming season.

After his impressive showing in pre-season, signing the 26-year-old was a real no-brainer for the Town chairman, and despite a shaky home league debut against Bradford, he’s looked comfortable in a number of positions since his arrival.

It’ll be interesting to see how he copes when the season hits winter and he needs to produce the goods on a terrible pitch away from the County Ground.

Laurence Vigouroux has also enjoyed a superb start to life in Wiltshire as he produced 2-3 top class saves on Saturday to earn his first clean sheet of the season.

Town’s new number one will have a greater challenge on his hands this weekend as title favourites Sheffield United visits SN1.

Despite the season still being in its infancy these games hold huge importance in setting out a marker to the division that Town can hold their own against the more fancied sides for promotion.

Nathan Thompson, Yaser Kasim and Jonathan Obika all miss out this weekend but that gives a chance to Kevin Stewart and Drissa Traore to show the Town faithful they can step up to the big occasions and help the club continue their unbeaten league start to the season.
