WAGAMAMA has always been a firm favourite of mine and go-to restaurant particularly in my student’s days as you are guaranteed to have a deliciously fulfilling meal for under £15.

For people looking for authentic Japanese food then this is definitely the place and after a long week of work, my friend James and I ventured to the newly-opened eatery to see what it had to offer.

After being seated we were kindly given the menu, which in more recent times, has increased its tasty offerings to diners and now has a wider selection of Asian curries among its already impressive selection of ramen.

They also now offer a new section of omakase, or chef special’s, including a coconut seafood broth, beef massaman curry, grilled tuna and yakitori duck – a grilled duck leg with a shredded cucumber, mint, coriander and mooli salad which is served on a bed of white rice with asian pancakes and citrus yakitori sauce.

As we browsed over the menus I ordered a large peach iced tea while James ordered a Coke.

For many people who have never eaten at Wagamama before the process is quite odd but actually works rather well. You order all your food i.e. your main and starter at the same time and whatever dish is cooked the quickest they bring to your table immediately.

Feeling not overly hungry, and over much deliberation, we both decided to opt for their teriyaki soba – a grilled steak with soba noodles in curry oil, mangetout, bok choi, red onion, chillies and beansprouts in a teriyaki sauce which was garnished with sesame seeds. There is also the option of ordering salmon instead.

Having previously had the dish, I was not disappointed by the serving which was very good value for money at just £13.95.

James was in agreement and polished his main off with no complaints.

The generous portion was more than enough and although we had a quick browse of the unusual sounding dessert menu, we decided that we were too full and asked for the bill.

Our meal only cost £33.10 and I would be inclined to make future visits to try out the rest of their menu.
