THE town centre was alive with sound, colour and energy over the weekend as Streetfest 2015 drew to a close.

Shoppers were kept entertained with a wide variety of performers, from shows be percussionists Bang On through to 3D art displays.

Although centred in the Brunel Shopping, the art-themed entertainment spread across the town offering something for everyone.

Dan the Hat and DJ Bobble were on hand in the shopping centre to do tricks for the youngsters while those from an older generation could sit outside and listen to songs from an Elvis impersonator.

“We were only coming into town to quickly pick up some stuff but we’ve had a walk around and what they have here is great,” said Sophie Gardiner, 32, of Old Town.

“The kids are having a great time. It’s really good they put this on.”

On Saturday morning when the sun was out, a number of people just sat out in the sun to soak up the carnival atmosphere.

Sheila Frampton, 67, of the Town Centre, said: “I think this is absolutely wonderful. It makes the place so much better.”

Streetfest lasted for a total of three days and also saw renowned street artist Julian Beever brighten up the Brunel with his take on the Mona Lisa.

For more than five days he has been building up the picture, which many excited passers-by took a selfie with.

He said: “This is art, within art, within art. This is probably the most famous piece of art in the world and something that everyone can relate to.

“When I heard the theme was art I was instantly drawn to creating this.”

Across the town a number of colourful giant spiders have also been painted which have captured everyone’s imagination.

The event was organised by The Brunel Shopping Centre who are hoping to make the town centre a more attractive place for shoppers.
