A DOMESTIC violence group for male abuse victims is set to hold a hair-raising fundraiser this month.

Swindon’s Voice For Men (VFM), which launched last month, will hold the Wax ‘N’ Wigs event on the top floor of Yates's, in Bridge Street, from 2pm on September 26.

Five brave souls have agreed to have their legs, heads, backs or chests waxed to raise money for the new organisation.

Swindon VFM, run by counsellor Simon Taylor, aims to give abused males a chance to seek help in a non-threatening group environment.

Along with partner Su Mills and colleague Michael Bizley, Simon created Swindon VFM complete with website and dedicated listening line, to help those in need.

The group aims to meet once a month at a discreet location in the town.

Simon said he hoped the unusual fundraiser would encourage people in the town to sign up.

“It’s fun, it’s something that’s a bit different and we hope it will attract a lot of attention from the people of Swindon," he said.

"Anyone is welcome to come along and watch or of course have a go themselves.

“We’ve already had a number of brave men signing up to donate a leg or two and one is toying with the idea of doing head, chest and legs so I’m hoping he goes ahead with it.”

Simon, who plans to have his legs waxed, said he is feeling anxious ahead of the event.

“I’m a bit fearful to be honest, and nervous about how much it’s going to hurt, the thought of raising money will get me through though,” he said.
