A THIRD man has admitted his part in a violent incident at Swindon Railway Station which left a one of their fathers laying bleeding and unconscious on the platform.

Nathan Groves, 24, who had been due to stand trial, changed his plea to admit a charge of affray when he appeared before a judge at Swindon Crown Court.

Groves, of Downing Street, Chippenham, accepted his part in the violence late on the night of Friday, December 12, into the following morning.

Fellow Chippenham men Thomas Harvey, 24, of Bradbury Close, and Declan Townsend, 25, of Malmesbury Road, admitted the charge at earlier hearings.

Judge Tim Mousley QC remanded Groves in custody and adjourned the case to a date to be fixed so it can link up with the other two defendants.

Remanding him in custody he told him: "This offence crosses the threshold at which custody is likely to be imposed,"

Violence flared when a group of men were heading for a train to Chippenham when the fight broke out around security barriers.

Townsend was with his father, Neil, after they had been out drinking with friends in Swindon in the run up to Christmas.

When they got to the station on their way home there was a verbal altercation and a fight starts among the three younger men by the barriers at the train station entrance.

Neil Townsend also got involved. and the fight was initially broken up by staff and the men walked off towards the platform.

Townsend again confronted one of the men and a second fight erupts which ended up with his father falling to the floor unconscious.

It is said that bottle and other items were thrown and there were punches and kicks in the scrap, much of which was caught on CCTV.
