Curfew could take under 16s off streets

ANYONE who looks under the age of 16 can be taken home in a police car if they are out after 9pm in a troubled part of Swindon.

The new curfew is part of a long-awaited dispersal order that has been brought in for the Welcombe Avenue area of Park North.

Residents have welcomed the police action and say yobs have made their lives hell in recent months.

The police say the dispersal order will be strongly enforced and they are determined to make life better for the under-siege locals.

PC Billy O'Sullivan, Parks and Walcot community beat manager, said: "It's a reaction to the high levels of abuse and intimidation deterring members of the public from using Welcombe Stores and from visiting the area."

The order means police can move in on any groups of two or more people believed to be causing or likely to cause trouble.

"There's a definite intention from me to have this policed robustly," PC O'Sullivan said.

"Offenders will be arrested and dealt with in as strong as possible terms that the law allows.

"The residents have been subjected to this anti-social behaviour and they deserve a break from it."

Officers also have the added power of being able to take home anyone reasonably believed to be under the age of 16' who is in the area between 9pm and 6am without a parent or responsible adult.

PC O'Sullivan said: "It's a very useful tool because a good proportion of the individuals are under the age of 16 and this is a powerful piece of legislation that allows us to remove them and take them home to their parents, who will then be made very aware of the circumstances in which their child has been returned home."

The order, which has been set up by the Neighbourhood Policing Team and the council, will run for six months until October 31.

Alicja Bolton, 63, of Welcombe Avenue, said: "We have been waiting for the dispersal order for a long, long time.

"We welcome it because we have had nothing but trouble and vandalism.

"We get between 30 and 40 kids hanging around and it's horrendous. They give you abuse and there's graffiti everywhere.

"It's just horrendous night after night."

Reg Patterson, 69, of Welcombe Avenue, said: "We are pleased it's in force. We watched them putting up the notices, but of course the proof of the pudding is in the eating so we will have to wait and see what develops.

"I am glad to see something is being done at last though."

This is great news for the good people of the parks and bad news for the scum bags, so watch.the the parents who dont know where there little terrors are will get a bit of a shock when they get a knock on the door from the local bobby, but its a shame they carnt take them staight down the station for a night in the cells and let the parents pick them up.this would be more effective and it will be interesting to see whether the police do actually pick up these scum bags or is it just another way to to try and put the residents minds at rest without actually doing anything.

this story inspired me to write a poem about this totalitarian (that meens dictatorial voice of reason) action taken.

the drums banged for liberty had taken a blow to her heart.
as the flower of summer begins to bloom, the heavy foot of dispair crushes its will,
the dark horseman of the law swoop down and take us all away.

it will only end when the sunshine of hope graces our souless lives again.

I would like to say to mush please stop drinking your cheap alcohol in the cavendish area.
A lot of the kids that do invade the parks area do seem to come from the surrounding areas, I recently heard a group of 10-20 kids say that they could not get away with it near their homes in covingham area.

It is a shame this topic has resulted in so many personal attacks. With regard to the parks in general, I have lived in Park South for 18 years and have always found it to be good place to live. Ok Cavvy has been a **** hole for years and bus shelters seem to be so scary they have to be beaten to death,but hopefully the massive investment in our local shops will help instil a different outlook from the small minority of kids/youths causing the most damage and abuse. Failing that the curfew must be enforced for the benefit of the vast majority of decent people in the Parks.

Thanks for your comments mush1234. Yes I do read the adver and I did actually say cavvy is a **** hole, along with Sussex Square and some other areas of the Parks and Walcot. What I was attempting to convey was that not everyone is is a dope smoking, **** up smackhead. Some of us try to keeps our homes and kids in good order. The demolition and rebuilding of Cavvy, along with getting rid of the old garage, new homes, new medical centre and improved school is surely a step in the right direction. All that is needed now is more firm action on the lowlife making other peoples lives a misery, along with the action taken at the house you were reffering to. Another good start would be for the Co-op and paper shop to stop serving alcohol to the little tosspots causing most of the trouble and vandalism.

Seriously people, some of you on here are so narrow minded! I have lived in PN for 25 years, I have never had any problems with anybody at all. Mush1234; you are a loser, go somewhere else and offload your ramblings. You think that what you say is relevant but infact your bored because you have no job and have nothing better to do other than play with yourself in your bedroom, alone. Before you start completely cussing where people live you might actually want to meet them and then perhaps have the balls to speak out then? No? Thought as much. Not everybody that lives in PN or PS are jobless and have extended families. There are a fair few of us that do work, do have respect, and do know how to bring up children without them causing mayhem. Good on the old bill for attempting to sort out the problem of youths hanging around, perhaps now they will start thinking about creating a safe environment where these kids can go. Like a youth club, keeps the kids off the streets, they are happy and we are happy. Anyway, I'm off jusy had to give MUSH1234 some home truths!

I seem to recognise the name of the bloke thrown out of his squalid house with the 10 kids. Is't it the same one who has been in the adver for years because of all the let offs he's had for drug dealing and drug abuse. Sounds like he made good use of all the chances he was given, stay **** Sh4g yourself silly, have kids you can't bring up properly or support and expect everone else to pay for it, along with cleaning up the cr4p you leave behind. Why was he allowed to turn the house into a festering hole, should have been kicked out and sterilised years ago. Clearly a class act, must have been great for the neighbours to have to smell the p1ss in the house when they opened their windows.

Hi all, Im from Hull and I disagree that kids should be in by 9pm!!!! They should be in by 7.30pm summertime and 5.30pm wintertime unless they are sensible enough to be in a club etc!!! If parent allow there off spring to rome the streets doing whatever till when ever, then those parents need to get real jobs and stop poping the family allowance in the bandit shops and getting silly tatoos and vertical blinds!!! NO CHILD UNDER THE AGE OF 18 WHILE ROAMING THE STREETS IS BEHAVING!!! ROAMING IS DUE TO BOREDOM, BOREDOM LEADS TO DOING SILLY THINGS FOR A LAUGH, SILLY THINGS LEAD TO SERIOUS MATTERS ie DRINK, DRUG, TWOK, ANTISOCIAL BEHAVOUR! Thats where most of the wine'os come from! the rest are either locked up, knocked up or worse!!!
LOVE YOUR KIDS, WANT THE BEST FOR YOUR KIDS, YOUR KIDS WILL HATE YOU FOR IT BUT WHEN THEY'RE OLDER AND WISER THEY'L THANK YOU FOR IT!!!


Im probly talking **** but I have 2 sets of kids.
My 1st set are with my ex except 1, and my 2nd with my current wife! The 1st are wild, arogant and violent! she lets they do what they like!!!!!
my 2nd including 1 from the 1st are normal, polite and know when to stop! Im firm but fair and never go back on my word. so far no problems or complaints and a stress free life!!!

So if you think anything of your kids, GET THE LITTLE BUGGERS IN EARLY! SWITCH THE GOGGLE BOX OFF AND GET TWISTER OUT!!!
