Police are appealing for information after a 22-year-old woman was pushed down stairs at the Baker Street nightclub in Wood Street.

The incident happened at about 1am on Sunday when a there was a fight between two men on the upper floor near the smoking area.

A local woman got caught in the middle of the incident and was assaulted by one of the men.

She was thrown to the floor and then pushed down the stairs resulting in bruising to her head and back. She went to  Great Western Hospital for treatment.

The suspect is described as mixed race, about 6ft tall, well-built and muscular. He had short hair with shaved sides. The man is believed to have been wearing a red polo shirt.

PC Stephen Drage said: "The actions of this man are completely unacceptable and are likely to have been witnessed by a number of people as the club was quite busy at the time.

"I ask that anyone who saw the incident comes forward and contacts me so we can identify this man and put him before the courts."
