SHOPPERS in Westlea packed out the new Aldi store today eager to be the first to get a taste of the new wares.

It is the fourth branch of the budget supermarket to open in the town, with the doors sliding open promptly at 8am in Shaw Road, following a special ribbon-cutting ceremony with store manager, James Bish.

Linda Grace, 40, of west Swindon was visiting the store with her mother, 81-year-old Joyce Grace from Wroughton.

“I have been looking forward to it opening because it’s really convenient for me,” she said.

“I do shop in Aldi when it’s on my way so it is good to have one nearby.”

Another happy shopper, who also lives in West Swindon, said: “I’ve shopped in Aldi stores before for a while.

“It’s great, it’s much more convenient for me because I just live around the corner.

“It’s a good new store, it has everything I want and is reasonably priced.”

Visitors to the new store can expect to pick from a choice of 1,500 products on the shelves, including fresh produce at everyday low prices and a wide range of weekly ‘Specialbuys’.

Aldi’s Specialbuys usually occur every Thursday and Sunday and offer customers a range of products from sportswear to electrical items.

This week, being opening week, customers have even more options to grab a bargain with special prices on various items.

Aldi store manager James Bish said: “The team and I thoroughly enjoyed the store opening this morning and it was great to get to know some of our customers.

Following its six month development, Aldi Swindon Westlea now stands at 1,140sqm with plenty of space for commuting customers to park in one of the 98 spaces.
