FRESH from a successful run of The Trials of Oscar Wilde in the capital, European Arts Company is back with The Picture of Dorian Gray.

Adapted by Wilde’s grandson, Merlin Holland, the play coincides with the 125th anniversary of the story’s publication.

Set in the decadent world of Victorian London, a beautiful young man called Dorian Gray becomes infatuated by the exquisite portrait that Basil Hallward has painted of him. He makes a Faustian pact that he will remain forever young while the picture grows old. Combining drawing-room comedy and gothic horror, it is a gripping and hugely entertaining theatrical event.

The Picture of Dorian Gray is on at the Arts Centre on September 29 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £16 and available at swindontheatres.co.uk or on 01793 524 481. — MARION SAUVEBOIS
