FAMILY and friends of Blunsdon biker Luke Coram came together to see a new memorial to him after the original hand-crafted motorbike made in his honour was stolen.

Despite offers of a reward for the return of the bike, no-one came forward.

Luke's friend Andy Hambidge has now made a replica replacement bike and chained it back at the spot on Dorcan Way where Luke lost his life on August 16.

The bike is fixed at the Snodshill roundabout where the 30-year-old died after he struck the central traffic island and collided with a lamp post.

"It is just nice to have it back to in its place for Luke, because he deserved it, and for Andy, because he was devastated when it got pinched," said Luke's mum, Tina Hyde.

"We haven't heard anything back about the original, not a thing at all. We just had to move on, and it is a delight to see one back in place.

"It is disappointing nobody came forward, because it would have been no good for anybody else. It was just for Luke. Poor Luke died in an horrific way, and his friend thought he deserved this."

Among the people pleased to see the replacement tribute was carer Diane Simpson who was one of the first on the scene of the crash and had battled to save Luke's life before paramedics arrived.

Diane and the family had a chance meeting recently when they were both laying flowers at the roundabout.

"She is a carer who worked on Luke that night," said Tina.

"We didn't know at the time, but she was also the one who laid the first set of flowers down there after he died.

"I went there a few weeks back, and she came over to me. I told her I was Luke's mum, and she said she had been there when it happened and worked on him that night. I just thanked her and was so overwhelmed.

"The response has been amazing and there have been such beautiful comments for him. It is all very touching."

Investigations are continuing into the circumstances of Luke's death, and a 55-year-old local man has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and released on police bail.

Luke leaves behind dad Ian and mum Tina, fiancée Stacey, and stepchildren Charlotte and Cory.
