AN ELDERLY man has been taken to hospital with life-changing head injuries after being struck by a car on Queens Drive.

At around 3.50pm, the man, believed to be in his late 70s, was walking along Queens Drive when two vehicles collided.

One of the cars struck the pedestrian, who sustained suspected life-changing injuries.

The pedestrian had been caught up in the collision involving a Vauxhall Astra and Peugeot 207, and neither of the drivers were injured in the incident.

Police closed roads, with diversions put in place, and the man was taken by ambulance to Great Western Hospital within one hour of emergency services attending.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: "We got the call at around 3.50pm to a collision between two vehicles and a male pedestrian at the junction of Queens Drive and Windsor Road.

"The drivers of the two cars involved, a Vauxhall Astra and a Peugeot 207, were not hurt in the incident.

"The male pedestrian, a man in his late 70s, has been taken to Great Western Hospital with suspected life-changing head injuries.

"We carried out partial road closures of Queens Drive and Windsor Road."

The elderly man was conveyed to hospital within six minutes of being taken from the scene.

A spokesman for the South Western Ambulance Service said: "We were called to Queens Drive at 3.49pm to the junction of Queens Drive and Windsor Road. There was one male patient who has sustained head and shoulder injuries, reported to be a male in his 70s.

Traffic is also being delayed at Mannington because of a collision.
