TATLER’s love-hate relationship with Swindon continued when it released a list of 10 things to love about the town.

On the day it published its November edition including an eight-page feature on Wiltshire which branded Swindon a no-go area, the Tatler toffs tried to make amends.

It said: “When Tatler declared Wiltshire to be the funnest county in England right now, we made a minor oversight.

“We praised the priapic peeps of Pewsey, and marveled at the mentalists of Mere.

“What we didn't do was acknowledge that a lot of the good stuff happens above the M4, which upset a few of the fine folk of North Wilts.

“Now, there is nothing Tatler magazine hates more than offending people (or indeed towns), it's not how we were brought up.

“So we'd like to apologise for any hurt feelings and have returned to our heaving dossier of research, and hereby present to you the 10 best things about Swindon.

“Please do let us know if we have missed any out.”

Wood Street Food Hall was the first Swindon landmark to get a mention, with praise for its tasty, top-quality meat, fish and bread.

The high society title saw fit to even praise Great Western Hospital because it was opened by Prince Philip and treats 70,000 people in accident and emergency every year.

The Beehive in Prospect Hill takes some beating for the Tatler editorial team, with local beer, an art gallery and poker on Mondays impressing them.

While the town’s museums get a mention, it has also referenced the history of the town’s name, which comes from the pigs farmed here.

Coate Water is listed another thing to love, as well as its Art Deco diving board, while the origin of the Oasis band name is brought up again.

Last, but not least, the Adver is apparently another thing to love about Swindon, because it’s punchy and with a good sense of humour.
