POLICE pulled the plug on a party planned by a number of school children after fearing the event could get out of control.

Wiltshire Police took the decision to close Mouldon Hill Park on Friday night after becoming aware of the party being planned on social media.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: "Though we have monitored large gatherings like this at the park before on this occasion police took the decision to stop it from going ahead as invitations had gone out on social media to several thousand people, and hundreds had confirmed their attendance.

"Teenagers + booze + a lake/river/canal was too big a risk with that number of people. Parents of secondary school pupils across Swindon should have received a text asking them the be sure of where their children were as well."
