ORGANISATIONS, clubs, and local residents flocked to the Redhouse Community Centre open day on Saturday ahead of its official opening later this year.
Guides, Scouts and Beavers, as well as churches and the Women’s Institute, turned out to discuss their interest in using the community centre, which is due to undergo a refurbishment before it is opened for the community to use.
The building, in Frankel Avenue, was put up last year, but for the past 12 months has been home to Tadpole Farm Primary School ahead of its move into new premises.
Blunsdon St Andrew Parish Council set aside £12,000 for the makeover and to employ a number of staff members to manage the site.
Parish council chairman Ian Jankinson said: “Redhouse has had no heart for years. There’s been no place for the community to meet and get together, but now they will be able to do that.
“For a long time we have been aware of a need for a community centre in Redhouse, and now we have one there has been a lot of interest in using it.
“In the past people used Isambard Community School but we’re hoping they will now be interested in using the new community centre.”
