A PETITION calling for a review of a case involving Jade Hatt, 21, who had sex with an 11-year-old boy is gaining momentum this afternoon.

Jane Williams launched the petition on change.org calling on the attorney general Jeremy Wright to review the case and sentencing of Jade Hatt.

Last November, Hatt had been entrusted with the care of the boy while he was off school, but one day stripped him of his clothes and had sex with him. Despite the boy admitting he did not enjoy the encounter and knew it was wrong, his father told the court his son was sex mad, and completely unaffected.

Judge Tim Mousley QC spared Hatt from a custodial sentence.

Members of the public have taken to social media to share their outrage at the sentencing, and now two residents have launched two online petitions calling for the case to be reviewed.

Writing on her petition on change.org, Jane said: “What message is this giving out in the protection of children? Whether or not the boy is a mature 11 or not, he is only 11 and has been sexually assaulted!

“I strongly ask that this case be looked at again.”

At 3pm on Thursday there were more than 1,000 supporters of the petition compared to just a handful of signatures at the beginning of the day and this had risen to 1,646 by 5.30pm.

The 11-year-old boy’s mother – who can’t be named for legal reasons – said: “I can’t believe how many people have signed this petition but we need more, I’m so grateful to this woman for starting all of this, it’s gone worldwide.”

“We need to reach 100,000 signatures, I think if it does the Government will look at this again.”

“The fact that this woman doesn’t even know my son and she’s doing this for him and is being so supportive has been a great help. The support is amazing.”

“I just want to get the word out there, get to 100,000 signatures and get this looked at again. I’m so thankful to this woman and I would love to thank her personally.”

A second petition has also been launched on the government’s official petition website also calling for the case to be reviewed. If this petition receives 10,000 signatures the government will be forced to provide a response. But if it reaches 100,000 signatures the petition will be considered for a debate in Parliament.

The petition has not yet gone live as the government needs to check it meets the petition standards before it is published.
