PEDAL power drove staff at an Old Town bank through the end of the week as the branch cycled 250 miles in aid of Children in Need.

A team of six put static pedal to the metal for 24 hours on Thursday at Lloyds Bank as the branch joined thousands of colleagues across the country in an effort to raise more than £300,000 for Pudsey.

Around 1,300 colleagues took part in the charity initiative from 11am on October 8 to 10.59am on October 9 - with a break overnight - as they collectively attempted to cycle more than twice around the world.

Larysa Salo, customer services manager at the Old Town branch, said: "Today is all about raising money for Children in Need by cycling in our branch for 250 miles, and just to try and raise as much as we can.

"We've cycled about 105 miles so far and we're going to go on after we close the branch at 5pm so those people who weren't able to have a go during the day can have a go.

"We've raised £150 so far and since Friday is busier we are hoping to raise even more."

"People have been so generous, we've seen a few notes go into the bucket."

To help keep the team motivated the branch was decorated for the occasion with team members donning their BBC Children in Need t-shirts and collecting donations in branch.

Jane Philips, customer service assistant and team captain said: “Lloyds Bank Old Town Swindon branch colleagues have always been huge supporters of the bank’s Charity of the Year raising large amounts of money for good causes by taking on incredible challenges We’re proud that our Principal partnership with BBC Children in Need will help make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children throughout the UK. Colleagues across the business are getting involved, and we have already raised more than £3 million for this year’s Appeal. This is just one way in which we’re helping to bring communities closer together, a key commitment within our Helping Britain Prosper Plan. We need lots of support from our customers and the public so please do pop along and help us achieve this fantastic fundraising target.”

The initiative is part of Lloyds' pledge to raise £2m a year for charity through the Lloyds Banking Group’s Helping Britain Prosper Plan.
