FOR an empathetic ear at Swindon Half Marathon tomorrow seek out the massage tent in the race village, where three-time finisher Danny Clayton will be on hand with his team before and after the run.
Danny, 34, is an injury and rehabilitation specialist who has been running DC Injury Clinic in Oakhurst for the past five years.
Swindon Half Marathon has become a big part of his life, both as a runner and an up-and-coming specialist himself.
“When there was the risk there wasn’t going to be a Swindon Half Marathon, I wanted to do anything I could to help it stay alive,” he said, after British Heart Foundation pulled out in February.
As a Swindon man, Danny is keen to retain a local ethos at the event and has brought in a team of five student and qualified sports massage therapists.
Charlotte Wilkins, Alyson Greetham, Lottie Levick, Janet Norris and Emily Kerley will all be offering 10 minutes of treatment for £5 from 9.30am, with all profit going to SEQOL Community Foundation.
“I am keen to keep it as a local event and keep that local ethos,” he said.
“These are up and coming students. I want to give them that opportunity I had when some of my early experiences were with this race.”
If you are after any advice, before or after the race, regardless of your ability, Danny and his team are keen to help in any way.
