DOZENS flocked to the Jovial Monk this weekend to a fun day in aid of domestic abuse community organisation Hometruths.

The Highdown Way pub was packed with visitors exploring the stalls and enjoying the activities to raise money for the not-for-profit service, which has offered specialist support to survivors of domestic abuse living in Swindon and Wiltshire since 2011.

Visitors enjoyed browsing the wares on offer, including from a candle stall by Laura Partylite’s, reiki and massage treatments by G & M World of Esoteric, from a Lynsara Jewellery stall, spiritual readings by Synchronicity and a wide range of children’s books from Kathryn’s Children’s Books stall.

Michelle Usher-Benwell organised the special day after her own experience of Hometruths service prompted her to give something back.

"I'm overwhelmed with the turn out," she said.

"All the stallholders have just been amazing with all their support.

"I just want to thank everyone who came along and for supporting such a good cause."

Kim Swinden, a founder of the organisation, said: "Michelle arranged the whole thing and what she's done is amazing. The proceeds from today are all going to Hometruths.

"We can’t thank her enough for all of her dedication to making the event happen. As an independent organisation we are always looking for innovative ways to raise funds and to raise awareness.

"She decided to organise it because she used some of our services and she wanted to give something back.

"We are an independent organisation so we don't get any funding from the Government or anything.

"There was face painting and lots of stalls, and other activities from a raffle to name the teddy and count the sweets."

The money will go towards keeping vital support services for domestic abuse survivors running.

"We provide one-to-one support for people and we also run a support group for women.

"We also help women get to court or to see a solicitor and a variety of other services."
