TWO-WHEEL fans will find it easier to pick out their bike of choice after Halfords officially reopened after an extensive refurbishment.

The Fleming Way store celebrated a five-week facelift with a special ceremony on Friday, welcoming customers in to see its wider range of cycles and customer friendly layout.

Children can now test out the options on the miniature race track in store, while older visitors can now explore and consider at their leisure with less need for staff support.

Measurement charts help guide you to the right frame and the expert WeRepair team – including an in-store bike technician – are on hand if you’re looking for a bike service.

Simon Brothwell, store manager, said: "We started off as a bike retailer and bikes have always been our core product. Over the years we have expanded to include car parts and other items.

"We completely gutted the store and gave it a massive overhaul. It's reinvigorated it and made it much more customer focussed.

"We've changed everything all to make it much easier for the customer.

“We know that people in Swindon want accessible, convenient service and straightforward repairs – and this new format has helped to meet that passion with a fantastic range of automotive parts, bikes and great looking accessories.

"The refit was part of 50-39 strategy, which is named after Sir Bradley Wiggins Olympic time-trial result.

"We didn't close during the refit. It took about five weeks to complete and a lot of the work was done overnight.

"It's massively different to how the store was before and something the shop has desperately needed for a long time. A former store manager who used to work here before said it was looking really good and a big change."

The changes were welcomed by customers, including Rodbourne's Paula McGregor.

"it's much more customer friendly," she said.

"Upstairs it looks the same but it's great they now have the bikes on the ground floor. There's more room for customers to walk around the shop and explore and find what you're looking for."

Swindon mayor, councillor Andrew Bennett, cut the ribbon to officially open the store.

He said: "I think it's a brighter, much more customer friendly store and I can see it doing tremendously. There's much to see and explore right around the shop and have great service provided."
