AFTER earning eight points from their first four league games, it seemed Swindon would fit straight back into life inside the top six in League One this season.

But since leaving Southend with a maximum in late August, Town have picked up just four points from a possible 18 - a worrying trend inside a poor League One.

That has, rightly or wrongly, resulted in some pressure being put onto manager Mark Cooper.

Swindon’s poor home form continued last weekend as Colchester left Wiltshire with a deserved win - Town lacking ideas and fitness in the final third.

During his time at the County Ground Paolo Di Canio did many things wrong but one area he could not be faulted on was the fitness of his squad, something we seem to be lacking this season in certain players.

Not a single member of Town’s front three on Saturday had enjoyed a full pre-season.Nicky Ajose trained with the youth team at Leeds, Wes Thomas was an after-thought at Birmingham and Henrik Ojamaa wasn’t even with a club.

With that in mind, it’s difficult to have much faith in them creating or scoring a goal to level up or win a match, but I believe their undoubted quality will shine through as their fitness and match sharpness improves as time goes on.

The full-time return of Jon Obika and Jermaine Hylton can’t come soon enough, having both of them starting with either Ojamaa or Ajose will be a much more effective front line going into October.

After his brief hiatus visiting a change machine, Lawrence Vigouroux has returned to Town a day after being sent back to Liverpool for paying a club fine using just coppers.

It’s good to see he admitted he was in the wrong, it's now time to put that behind him and regain his place.

Next Tuesday, we visit our old ‘friends’ Oxford in the next round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

After falling short in the last few derbies, Mark Cooper knows he can take some off he building pressure of his back with a result to reclaim the bragging rights which have eluded us in recent years.
