THE WACKY comedy mind behind Modern Life Is Goodish is back with a live show that promises more of his unique blend of stand-up and visual storytelling as Dave Gorman Gets Straight To The Point*... (*The PowerPoint).

Yes, that’s right. It’s a PowerPoint presentation.

We know what you’re thinking. But don’t worry. You won’t need to take notes and you almost certainly won’t be tested on it later.

“There’ll be some swearing, but not much,” teases Gorman. “On the TV show you have ad breaks, so I need restart buttons. Whereas live you set it going and it never stops, it gets denser and deeper and more involved, so it’s pacier and more ferocious. I’m always layering things and it’s so much easier to do that when you’ve got an hour and a half to just head in one direction. It’s just a more satisfying bullet train. Gather, gather, gather... That’s the thing for me.”

He adds: “I do have a support act, Nick Doody, who’s worked on every series of Modern Life Is Goodish, so it really is Team Goodish on the road. We collaborate a lot and we do a thing together at the end, so it’s all tied up and hopefully feels like a gang show. He’s never had a bad gig on the tour and I feel evangelical about introducing him to people.”

Numbers geek Gorman studied mathematics at Manchester University where he was cajoled into attending a comedy workshop by the then unknown Frank Skinner. Proving himself a natural stand-up, he started doing paid gigs in Birmingham. Not one to brag, Gorman’s family and friends only discovered what he’d been up to with his evenings when they spotted him on TV.

Cementing his success at the Edinburgh Festival he struck gold in 1996 by landing the job of co-writer on The Mrs Merton Show. It was around 1998 that Gorman started working on his concept shows.

He is the man behind Modern Life is Goodish, a six-part series sharing his observations and frustrations about our behaviour online, the cult of celebrity and all that other stuff that seems to rule many lives these days.

Dave Gorman will be at the Wyvern Theatre tonight at 8pm. Tickets are £25. To book go to swindontheatres.co.uk or call 01793 524481.
